Guest Editor: Top 3 Spring Beauty Trends

Hi all—It’s Ashley from Curls Fo’ The Girls! I’m back with my 3 favorite spring beauty trends. Aside from being in tune with our fashion trends, it is definitely important that our beauty routine follows suit so let’s get started!

solangeorange Orange Lips

Orange lips were definitely making waves on runway as the go-to for spring 2014. It’s a great spring/summer color because it’s bright and fun, and an all-around attention grabber. There are so many different shades of orange out there including neon and red orange, so there is definitely be a shade for everyone! I highly suggest that all other makeup be kept to a minimum to make your pout the star of the show. Luckily, I picked up an orange lipstick 2 years ago from the MAC Cosmetics “Hey Sailor” collection in ‘Sail La Vie’, which is a red orange shade with a satin finish. However, if you’re looking to go brighter, I highly suggest checking out ‘Electric Orange’ in the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids collection. This color is not for the timid!

flawlessskin Natural Makeup, Flawless Skin

Concealers and foundations were being used on runway to hide flaws rather than to completely transform. This was definitely a great move especially because the weather is warming up. I would suggest mixing a very light concealer or foundation with sheer coverage in your moisturizer to get this look, but a BB cream is also a great option. It is light and it has an SPF, which is essential for healthy skin! This look is very simple. Although eyebrows appeared to be groomed—lightly filled in or held in place with clear gel—models skipped mascara and lippies as well. I think this look is great with a little lipgloss or that orange pout we talked about! 😉

blueshadowtrendBlue Eye Shadow/Liner

Models made bold statements by rocking blue eye shadows and liners on runway as well. Blue is a great color because anyone can wear it, and it makes the whites of one’s eyes appear brighter! ‘Cobalt blue’ was definitely the leader of the pack as it is also a fun color for the spring. If you aren’t feeling bold enough to rock bold blue shadow, a blue liner is definitely a great option. My favorite ‘Cobalt Blue’ liner comes from the L’Oreal Colour Riche collection. It glides on easily and is great for smudging! I would definitely use this shade as an accent color and line my bottom lash line for an instant pop. However, if you are feeling bold, a swipe of blue shadow on your lids is definitely on trend.

I hope that you all will try at least one of these trends. I feel that they are all simple and with proper research, you should be able to pull them off effortlessly.

Guest Editor: 6 Products for Sexy Effortless Summer Hair

Hi all! I’m so excited to be here, but let me first introduce myself. My name is Ashley and I am the creator of Curls Fo’ The Girls, which is a natural hair/beauty blog. I definitely want to thank Jair for inviting me to share some of my beauty insight with you all. I think this post is just in time to help you prep your tresses for the summer! 😉

As temperatures warm up, there is very little want to be inside especially doing one’s hair. There are so many different products and tools to be utilized to help you maintain sexy hair, but spend very little time doing so. With that being said, let’s begin!

neutrogenaleavein A Good Leave-In Conditioner with UV Protection

I think it is extremely important to find a leave-in conditioner with UV protection especially if your hair is color-treated or you plan on being outside for long periods of time. This will ensure that your strands are well protected as well as your color job. My favorite leave-in conditioners with UV protection are the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-In and the Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner. Both leave-in treatments aid in maintaining soft, moisturized hair as well as protecting delicate strands from the damaging effects of the sun.

KCCCCurling Custard

I am a big fan of Wash & Gos in the summertime because they are super easy to do—you simply wash your hair & go! They are summertime friendly and they require very little manipulation, which is great for curls. I recommend using some kind of curling custard in warmer weather because they are extremely lightweight and very concentrated, which means a little product goes a long way! My favorite CC is the Kinky-Curly Curling Custard. This product helps to maintain frizz, boosts shine, helps curls clump together (enhances curl definition), and it has an amazing smell. Curling custards are also easy to “refresh” in the morning. You can either let the steam from your shower loosen up your hair or you can spritz your hair with a little bit of water, fluff, and go!

EcoStylerA Good Gel or Edge Control

I am definitely a fan of laying my edges down in the summer, especially if I want a sleek style. This is quite easy to do, but you must understand your hair. For example, I have fine hair, but gel will definitely do the trick. For those that cannot use gel, there are other products on the market like pomades, beeswax, or jelly like products that will get the job done. I am a BIG fan of the Olive Oil Eco Styler Gel because it is alcohol free, provides a maximum hold (10), and it doesn’t flake. This is also a very inexpensive option. I’ve also used this in place of the curling custard when I wanted more hold on my curls. However, I definitely use this on my edges with a small brush or toothbrush and my edges will be laid all day! I am also a fan of the Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste. I honestly don’t know how to describe the consistency, but it kind of reminds me of beeswax. It smells incredible and it will also lay edges in an instant!

hairelasticsHair Elastics

Hair elastics are definitely a favorite of mine. They are an easy way to get hair off your neck and face. They can also help style hair into a bun, puff, or high puff, which sits at the top of your head. I like them because they are extremely flexible and hold more hair than a regular hair elastic. These elastics make hairstyling so much easier as you can style your hair before leaving home, or throw one in your bag in case you need a mid-day style adjustment!

bobby-pinsBobby Pins

Bobby Pins are also a favorite of mine and I truly believe that you can never have too many! Bobby pins are great for holding down hairs that may pop out of place during the day, they can be used to secure buns and puffs for a sleeker look, and sometimes, you need them to get those loose hairs out of the way. They are super easy to throw in your bag (I never leave the house without a few during the summer for those ‘just in case’ moments). *Sidenote—the ridged side should be placed against your scalp because they hold the hair in place! 😉

water bottleBonus Tip: Moisture, Moisture, Moisture!

Moisture is a key part of maintaining healthy, hydrated hair in the summer. I think everyone needs to drink a ton of water anyway to help your body function properly. However, proper hydration inside can help the outside! 😉 Aside from drinking water, I recommend keeping a spray bottle handy to help mist strands. Water is the key hydrator so applying water before any other product is the best way to ensure well-moisturized hair!

Beauty Haul

ImageI am so excited to share with you my first beauty haul. As a college student it’s pretty hard for me to indulge and purchase all of the hair and beauty products I want to. Typically my money goes to school related things, makeup, and clothes. Recently, I noticed I was low on hair products and thought it was the perfect time to indulge in some new products to try. I wanted to share with you several things I brought. I purchased hair products from Sally’s and a face wash from Walmart.

ImageEden Body Works: Coconut Shea All Natural Cleansing CoWash, 16 oz., $8.99

I’m so excited to share with you is this amazing product. My hair is natural and sometimes gives me a hard time. I have curly hair that tends to be very dry. When it comes to cleansing my hair, I stay away washing my hair with a basic shampoo maybe once a month, because they tend to dry out my hair even more. The Coconut Shea Cleansing CoWash is sulfate free (doesn’t dry out hair) and is paraben free. This product is a “gentle cleansing conditioner cream that removes residue and buildup between washings to promote a healthy hair environment for growth.” I can honestly say I love this product. After I wash it out I notice that my hair is not super dry and it has the right amount of slip. I personally don’t mind that it doesn’t create suds. After every wash I can see that my hair is no longer dirty or oily. This product was super cheap and delivered great results. Also, if you purchase from Sally’s it’s a litter cheaper with a Sally’s card.

ImageEden Body Works: Coconut Shea All Natural Pudding Soufflé, 16 oz., $8.99

Since I’ve been wearing my hair natural a little more, due to my gym schedule, I thought it was important to purchase a type of styling cream. As said before my hair is very dry and frizzy, however I didn’t want a product that would weigh down my hair. The Coconut Shea Pudding Soufflé “adds moisture to dry, thirsty tresses using an exotic blend of all natural ingredients formulated to reduce frizz, enhance textured styles, and provide a soft, shiny finish.” I’m sure this will be a great product. However, today is the first time I’ve used the product so I will definitely do a review a few weeks into using this pudding.

ImageBiotera: Ultra Moisturizing Reconstructing Conditioner, 1 L, $13.99

I’ve used Biotera products a few times and I am not disappointed. After purchasing this reconstructing conditioner I’ve noticed a difference in my hair. After using, my hair is always soft and moisturized. I straighten my hair pretty often, so it’s important to do it in the safest say and to take care of my tresses while doing so. I love to make sure my hair is hydrated to promote hair growth and because NO ONE wants dry ass hair. The Biotera Ultra Moisturizing Reconstructing Conditioner deeply conditions, strengthens and repairs hair leaving it healthy, strong & lustrous. So like I said, if you have super dry, damaged, or chemically treated hair this product is for you! Remember, if you have a Sally’s card you can get for $11.99!

ImageSt. Ives: Nourished And Smooth Oatmeal Scrub + Mask, 6 oz., $4.59

So, ever since I was in high school I have always used St. Ives products. My skin is super dry and tends to peel a lot. In search of a new face wash to take care of those products, I didn’t think twice before purchasing this product. The St. Ives Nourished And Smooth Oatmeal Scrub + Mask is fantastic! It’s gentle enough to use every day, yet it gets the job done in one try. I’m all about natural products and this scrub combines oatmeal extract with 100% natural exfoliates. This scrub/face wash will be perfect for the summer when your skin is dry and peeling. I couldn’t find this product on Walmart’s website, so here’s an alternative. You can purchase it at Target for the same price!

I really hope you enjoyed my first haul. It was fun sharing the products I decide to spend my money on and if they’re worth it or not. If you purchase any of these products or recommend anything, comment below! Don’t forget to follow on Twitter: FPR_Royalty, like on facebook and follow on Instagram: _Jairx3

Best Dressed: Six Favorites from the AMA’s

Hello all, Happy Monday!

ImageLast night, November 24th, the American Music Awards in Los Angeles aired. It was a big night for many artists. Taylor Swift won about four awards, including artist of the year. Another singer that won a huge award was Rihanna. She won the first ever AMA Icon Award. Her mother presented her the award and we can all say it was emotional and beautiful. Lady Gaga made a fierce appearance on the red carpet by riding a mechanical horse. To say the least what else would you expect from Gaga. She wore the lovely pastel gown she wore in the Versace campaign. TLC, including Lil Mama, also made an appearance performing their hit “Waterfalls”. Chili and T Boz looked amazing & sounded amazing as well. Ryan Macklemore accepted his award and also made a nice speech about racial profiling.  The night was full of great people and great performances.

ImageThere were many more amazing aspects of last night, including the gowns and outfits the stars decided to wear. I chose six favorites from the red carpet at the AMAs. Now, these aren’t in any specific order.

Image1. Rihanna:

I have to start this post off with my favorite artist, Rihanna. This bad gal can never do wrong. At the AMAs Rihanna sported a Jean Paul Gaultier bra and a mermaid skirt. She accessorized this look with silver jewels, a silver chocker, a sexy spiked ear cuff, and a doobie. Rihanna also rocked a fresh face with very neutral makeup, which was perfect in contrast to this fierce look. I love that she decided to go with this edgy yet elegant look. This look is definitely Rihanna written all over it. Her stylist did a fabulous job with this gown.

 Image2. Nicole Richie:

Nicole Richie… Girl… She is such a fabulous person! Since last night I have been stalking her Instagram looking at her fun pics and selfies from last night. The fashion queen sported a white Emilio Pucci cutout gown. She accessorized with a gold necklace and earrings and a silver hard fringe clutch. The red nails and neutral makeup gave this look a fresh and classic feel. I loved everything about this look. The crisp white looks great against her healthy glow. Nicole always looks so fabulous and chic… Can we just take a moment and admire this look please!

 Image3. Taylor Swift:

Now… This is one girl who never really catches my eye on the red carpet until last night. Taylor Swift looks dashing in her gold ensemble. I loved that she wore gold to match those beautiful and healthy locks. It also looked amazing against her skim complexion. Taylor wore a gold Julien Macdonald mini.  She decided to take a more modest route and had a modesty panel installed. It’s okay girl you still look fierce. She paired this sexy mosaic mini with some gold strappy heels and some simple makeup. As said before Taylor never catches my attention. However, this look is showstopper! Something I wouldn’t have expected from the singer.

Image4. Niaya Rivera:

Lets take another moment… Big Sean is one lucky guy. Niaya Rivera looks absolutely amazing, stunning, sexy, and fierce. The Glee star wore a black sexy Michael Kors cut out gown. Black was an amazing option for this look. I loved how this gown fit her perfectly. She accessorized with gold Marina B jewelry and wore Jimmy Choo shoes. She wore neutral makeup and sported voluminous curled hair. I just can’t get over how gorgeous this woman is. This gown definitely did her justice.

Image5. Zendaya:

The Disney Channel star has shown on the red carpet, on Instagram, and what she wears on a day-to-day basis, that she has true style. This all white Donna Karan ensemble looks amazing on Zendaya. She paired this look with silver Louboutin’s, Silver bangles and rings, and Rapunzel-esque hair.  This look was sleek and chic for the young star. It stayed true to her style because it had that edgy tomboy feel to the look. Her stylist really did a great job!

Image 6. Kylie & Kendal Jenner:

These girls have definitely took some notes from their stylish older sisters. Both of the girls have different styles but they both look absolutely amazing and gorgeous. Kendal wore a white Keepsake cutout stop and skirt with nude Manolo Blahnik pumps and a silver Sylvan Ex necklace. She looked great, kind of reminded me of Kim Kardashian. But out of the two my favorite look was Kylie’s. She sported a white cropped Maiyet top, black Giambatista Vaild pants, black Barbara Bui pumps, and Bijules rings. To complete the look she carried a black quilted clutch and sported ombre wavy locks with chic bangs. Kylie has a cool trendy look. I adore this look because it’s so edgy and it looks great on her. Kylie is definitely my favorite Jenner, sorry Kendal. J

These were a few of my favorite looks of the night. Who had your favorite or worst look?

Halloween Tricks and Treats!

Happy Halloween Dolls!

Halloween is the day everyone gets to dress up and be their alter ego. Some people like to go all out and wear scary or sexy costumes, while others like to keep it simple and opt for a simple outfit. For the festivities for tonight and this weekend I will be sharing some tricks and treats to keep your Halloween effective and easy for people who want to dress up and others who want to keep it simple!

To start off lets talk about some treats. As said before some people decide to get dressed up in costumes and go all out. While others might want to keep it a little more simple. To embrace the Halloween spirit there are a couple of ways to feel festive without all of the heavy makeup and skimpy costumes. I decided to put two looks together to cater to two different events while staying holiday appropriate while staying simple.

Bloody Chic

The first look, Bloody Chic“, is the perfect outfit for a dinner and then a night on the town. Since you don’t want to get all dressed up, this is a great time to try out a look you normally wouldn’t. This is definitely an outfit I love, however it’s out of my comfort zone. I decided to make the statement piece this feather jacket. On this spooky night this jacket will be super warm, while also giving character to this outfit. The jacket is perfect because it’s something out of the ordinary for this fun holiday. I decided to pair this look with a black leather skirt and platform ankle boots. To amp this Halloween look up, I accessorized with a cat detailed hat, red and black gems, and red lips. All of these accessories completes this bloody and chic look. Here’s where you can get all of the items in this look:

Crisp Bunny

The second look, Crisp Bunny“, is the perfect outfit if you’re looking for something that’s simple and class/work appropriate without being over the top. I have been in love with lace bunny ears ever since Rihanna sported them with Chanel. I thought it was the perfect piece to base this simple Halloween look. To go with the bunny theme, I decided to start this outfit off with a cozy fuzzy sweater, some lightly distressed boyfriend jeans, and some black leather ankle boots. To give this look some Halloween accents I accessorized with orange nail polish and lipstick, as well as some black gems. Even though this look is super simple, the lace bunny ears and orange and black accessories ties in this holiday in an effortless way. Below I will list where you can snag these items:

After putting on your costume or your everyday look, it’s important to complete it with the perfect makeup. To cap off this post I will share 5 tricks to make sure your makeup lasts all night, whether you’re wearing a full face or an everyday look.

  1. If you’re sporting a bight or dark lipstick it’s hard to make sure it won’t smudge all over your face during the night. To make sure your color choice stays on your lips, prep your lips with some concealer. Then outline your lips with a lipliner. This will make sure your lipstick won’t bleed off of your lips.
  2. If you’re wearing heavy makeup you want to keep your foundation matte the whole night. It will suck when you take pictures and it flash shows how oily your t zone is. To prevent that from happening, after your apply your foundation use a fluffy brush to apply some translucent loose power. This will keep your t zone matte and oily free.
  3. When applying heavy face makeup you want to keep your eyebrows from showing through. To make sure your eyebrows stay in place or hidden, simply use Elmer’s glue stick. This slicks down those eyebrow hairs and keep them in place. It also makes it easier to cover those eyebrows when applying heavy foundation or face paint. Bonus: Using Elmer’s glue also helps create wrinkles.
  4. For this year, if you’re planning to be a zombie, vampire, or anything that includes wounds or open cuts there’s an easy way to make those appear real. First draw your cut or bite marks with black pencil eyeliner. Then go over the marks with a deep red eyeshadow, make sure you smudge out the marks to make it appear as a fresh cut. This deep color will give the look of a fresh cut, now just add blood!
  5. To add extra drama to any look, casual or extreme there are a variety of lashes you can choose from! You can stay safe with a pair of demi wispys or you can visit Sephora or MAC and look at their over the top options.

I hope you have enjoyed these Halloween tricks and treats. To all of my readers, be creative, be safe, have fun, and have a happy Halloween!

Clarisonic Pedi, Splurge or Not to Splurge?

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Tonight I am asking the question, is it worth the splurge to be able to give yourself grade A pedicures every time at home?

As a student I know it can be tough to find the time to indulge in a pedi every two weeks, yet alone pay for one. Especially, since I opt for a solid color every time, nothing fancy. We begin to ask ourselves, why can’t we get the same or better results at home? Well, the beloved Clarisonic has finally given us a solution to ending dry and rough feet. However, it’ll cost you a pretty penny but I promise in the end it’s worth it.

This photo was courtesy of the Clarisonic website!
This is exactly what you’ll receive (including a charger) when you purchase the Clarisonic Pedi.

The Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation System is designed to smooth, soften, and hydrate dry and rough heels and toes. As soon as I heard of this gadget, I was interested. 91% of users have reported softer and rejuvenated feet and 10x softer and smoother feet. The Clarisonic Pedi comes with the pedi device and a couple of other things:

  • Pedi Wet/Dry Buffing Brush Head: this little baby does most of the work, it’s supposed to transform your dry, cracked heels in minutes by exfoliating all of the dead skin
  • Pedi Smoothing Disk:  it’s used to smooth the rough skin
  • Pedi-Buff Sonic Foot Smoothing Treatment: this exfoliating scrub will remove excess dry skin with a blend of lactic acid, apricot seed & a tri-fruit complex
  • Pedi-Balm Sonic Foot Softening Treatment: this balm hydrates the skin by using shea butter, honey, and apricot oil (and it doesn’t leave a oily or sticky feeling after)
  • Pedi-Boost Sonic Foot Renewing Peel: this treatment helps exfoliate and renew the skin

All of these goodies are included when purchasing this kit. I think this comes in handy because the Clarisonic Pedi is waterproof, so it’s super easy to use while you’re taking a soothing bath or in the shower. When purchasing, it also comes with a two year warranty. I’m pretty sure this gadget will last a long time and you will get many uses out of it.

The retail price for the Clarisonic Pedi is $199. After doing the math, you spend way more getting weekly pedis than you would with this DIY pedi gadget. For a step by step guide on how to use this baby, visit Elle’s blog!

So the question I am asking everyone is, will you ditch your fav nail salon for a cozy DIY pedi while using the Clarisonic Pedi?

Let me know your comments and opinions!
