As summer comes to an end, I’m excited to indulge in some fall shopping and cooler, less humid, weather. I’m not one to follow trends religiously every season, however here are three trends that are timeless. These trends can be worn throughout every season with minor changes. This fall I am excited to swap out some black items for hues of grey, navy, and bordeaux (I know shocker!).
Normcore
Jason Wu
Jil Sanders
Theory
I absolutely love the normcore look for every season. Some of my favorite normcore looks this past fashion week was from Jason Wu, Jil Sanders, and Theory. Each designer delivered a sleek and ultra-feminine look, which is exactly why I love this trend. Even though it’s a little masculine, I find this style so classy and sexy at the same time. Normcore is a sleek and monochrome style that is flattering for many body types. The great thing about this trend is that it’s compatible with every season. In the fall you can stick with different gradients of black, grey, navy and bordeaux. During the spring and summer months you can opt for whites, nudes, and pastel colors. This winter I’m excited to introduce more grey into my wardrobe. In this look I love how the grey Valentino cape adds an unexpected element to the normcore look. I kept the rest of the look with a black Alexander Wang pinstripe tee, black Chloe trousers, and black ankle boots. To accessorize, you can always amp up this look with a bold red lip or a dark and vampy color. I suggest keeping the rest of the makeup and hair effortless and natural.
Alexander Wang Boxy Pinstriped Tee, $495 / Valentino Wool Blend Cape, $2,620 / Chloe Light Cady Trousers, $960 / Lipsy Rhiannon Boots, $140
Sweater Dressing
Michael Kors
Stella McCartney
Every wardrobe needs a great sweater dress. When it comes to this essential piece, I would suggest splurging because no one wants to have to replace this piece every single year. A sweater dress will never go out of style and is definitely a wardrobe must have. This piece is so easy to pair with anything and you can easily dress it up or down, while staying cozy and warm. There are so many affordable dupes that are also great quality at Zara. During fashion week there were many designers that showcased this staple piece. My favorites were from Michael Kors and Stella McCartney. I loved how both looks were completely different. It just shows how versatile a sweater dress could be. When creating this look I was torn between the classic knit sweater dress or a really cool modern sweatshirt dress. The two main pieces were the Kenzo sweater dress and the sweater mini dress by Cedric Charlier. Since it will be a little chilly I paired both dresses with an oversized wool Burberry Brit coat (another fall staple). To clean up and finish the look I completed the look with a black Givenchy Antigona tote, a black wool fedora from Rag & Bone, and a pair of really cool yellow python brogues by Simone Rocha.
Cedric Charlier Chunky Mini Dress, $955 / Kenzo Sweater Dress, $415 / Burberry Brit Oversize Coat, $1,295 / Simone Rocha Python Brogues, $1,120 / Givenchy Small Antigona Tote, $1,731 / Rag & Bone Felted Wool Fedora, $261
Brights
Prabal Gurung
Bottega Veneta
Agnona
I’m not one for indulging in purchasing bright pieces for my wardrobe. However, I do think it’s essential to have a few pieces or looks that are out of your comfort zone. Pieces like these are perfect for a “girls night out” or even for fashion week. I wanted to keep this look bold and colorful, while staying practical to my style. I didn’t want to be too matchy matchy so I went with a really cool bold purple jumper from Alberta Ferretti. To break up the massive colored coat I paired it with a pair of fuchsia silk trousers from Ostwald Helgason. To keep the look practical, I finished the look with a black West Coast jumper and black Phillip Lim Alexa ankle boots.
West Coast Jumper, $355 / Alberta Ferretti Full-Length Jacket, $1,100 / Ostwald Helgason Cropped Trousers, $460 / 3.1 Phillip Lim Alexa Ankle Boot, $675
