Metallic and iridescent pieces are going to be hot this spring and summer. If you’re not ready to go all out on the statement piece, it’s easy to incorporate this trend into your shoe collection. “Loafers” weren’t necessarily an item that I would reach for while shopping. However, designers are revamping the look of loafers with a modern minimalistic design. These puppies are definitely a staple every wardrobe should have! Embracing this trend will definitely vamp up your work wardrobe and will translate well during nightlife as well. I’m obsessed with this trend because it’s so easy to embrace and it’s super fun. I purchased the forever 21 rose gold loafers and I love them!! They bring so much personality to a look, whether it’s casual or professional. Below are some options and different designs that will help you embrace this trend. When reaching for a metallic or iridescent shoe you don’t always have to go with the typical gold, rose gold or silver. This trend also comes in super fun shades like magenta and teal, so it’s easy to choose something your comfortable with and something that will compliment your style. Below are two options on how to style your new funky loafers.

Madewell black turtleneck top / Duster coat, $24 / Yves Saint Laurent black skinny jeans / Yves Saint Laurent leather flat, $850 / Givenchy black handbag / Illesteva matte black glasses

Lately I’ve been obsessed with leather leggings. They’re an amazing staple for the winter. Ever since graduating it’s been a little difficult to dress up everyday. Leather leggings are an easy way to spruce up any look, yet stay effortless. The best thing is that they come in many patterns and styles, so it’s super easy to change it up a bit. Even though they’re leather, they shouldn’t be paired with short shirt or blouse. Pair with a longer sweater, button down or tunic for an effortless chic look. Below are some options if you’re looking to add leather leggings to your wardrobe.

Three Timeless Fall Trends

As summer comes to an end, I’m excited to indulge in some fall shopping and cooler, less humid, weather. I’m not one to follow trends religiously every season, however here are three trends that are timeless. These trends can be worn throughout every season with minor changes. This fall I am excited to swap out some black items for hues of grey, navy, and bordeaux (I know shocker!).

Normcore

Normcore-Jil Sanders

Normcore-Theory

Theory

I absolutely love the normcore look for every season. Some of my favorite normcore looks this past fashion week was from Jason Wu, Jil Sanders, and Theory. Each designer delivered a sleek and ultra-feminine look, which is exactly why I love this trend. Even though it’s a little masculine, I find this style so classy and sexy at the same time. Normcore is a sleek and monochrome style that is flattering for many body types. The great thing about this trend is that it’s compatible with every season. In the fall you can stick with different gradients of black, grey, navy and bordeaux. During the spring and summer months you can opt for whites, nudes, and pastel colors. This winter I’m excited to introduce more grey into my wardrobe. In this look I love how the grey Valentino cape adds an unexpected element to the normcore look. I kept the rest of the look with a black Alexander Wang pinstripe tee, black Chloe trousers, and black ankle boots. To accessorize, you can always amp up this look with a bold red lip or a dark and vampy color. I suggest keeping the rest of the makeup and hair effortless and natural.

Sweater Dressing

Stella McCartney

Every wardrobe needs a great sweater dress. When it comes to this essential piece, I would suggest splurging because no one wants to have to replace this piece every single year. A sweater dress will never go out of style and is definitely a wardrobe must have. This piece is so easy to pair with anything and you can easily dress it up or down, while staying cozy and warm. There are so many affordable dupes that are also great quality at Zara. During fashion week there were many designers that showcased this staple piece. My favorites were from Michael Kors and Stella McCartney. I loved how both looks were completely different. It just shows how versatile a sweater dress could be. When creating this look I was torn between the classic knit sweater dress or a really cool modern sweatshirt dress. The two main pieces were the Kenzo sweater dress and the sweater mini dress by Cedric Charlier. Since it will be a little chilly I paired both dresses with an oversized wool Burberry Brit coat (another fall staple). To clean up and finish the look I completed the look with a black Givenchy Antigona tote, a black wool fedora from Rag & Bone, and a pair of really cool yellow python brogues by Simone Rocha.

I’m not one for indulging in purchasing bright pieces for my wardrobe. However, I do think it’s essential to have a few pieces or looks that are out of your comfort zone. Pieces like these are perfect for a “girls night out” or even for fashion week. I wanted to keep this look bold and colorful, while staying practical to my style. I didn’t want to be too matchy matchy so I went with a really cool bold purple jumper from Alberta Ferretti. To break up the massive colored coat I paired it with a pair of fuchsia silk trousers from Ostwald Helgason. To keep the look practical, I finished the look with a black West Coast jumper and black Phillip Lim Alexa ankle boots.

White To A Wedding?

Wedding season is here and the ultimate question is, what to wear? While digging through your closet or looking through every department store, the question is it appropriate to wear white to a wedding continues to run through your mind. Trust me we have all been there. Recently I was approached by Carolyn, from Loverly, with the question and while thinking of my answer I found myself in limbo between yes and no.

I believe it if bride and the bridal party or if the bride requests guests not to wear white then I wouldn’t. Otherwise I think wearing “white” is completely acceptable. I do think to respect the bride I wouldn’t go overboard and wear an elaborate gown, a floor length dress, or anything else that would draw unnecessary attention away from the bride and to you. For an example, I wouldn’t wear white at all to a white tie wedding… That’s a big no no since it’s so formal. For any other reason you don’t feel comfortable wearing pure white, you can opt for cream, opal, nude, blush or any other variation to the color.

Since this topic is so controversial, I came up with three looks that would be an appropriate way to wear white to a wedding.

Michael Kors woolen dress, $2,375 / Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, $750 / Les Petits Joueurs chain strap handbag, $968 / Kendra Scott colorful earrings, $375 / Lips makeup, $9.13

I really love this black tie option. I thought it was appropriate because of the color scheme and the length and material of the dress. The Michael Kors wool dress is perfect for a black tie wedding. The fabric is more casual and since the design is basic it won’t take away from the brides attention. To add some color and excitement to this white mini I paired it with vibrant blue accessories. The piece that caught my eye was the iridescent blue Giuseppe Zanotii shoes. They are HOT! They definitely make the look and add a personality to the look. Another accessory that was a must have was this super cute Les Petits Joueurs clutch. It accentuated the shoes nicely and added more character to this look. To finish off the complete look, I finished off with red lipstick and blue Kendra Scott oval drop earrings.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 10.45.28 AMAlexander Wang top, $495 / CÉLINE white pants, $484 / Giuseppe Zanotti leather shoes, $750 / Alexander Wang clutch, $545 / Oscar de la Renta statement necklace, $495 / Tom ford lipstick, $50

This look is absolutely gorgeous. I would wear this look anywhere, wedding or not. These vintage buckle and tweed Celine trouser were the base of the look. I loved the shape and structure of these trousers. The vintage pink belt adds personality to the trousers without taking away from their look. To keep the look from looking boring I loved the texture of the Alexander Wang ribbed crew neck tank. Since this look is minimal it adds texture and movement, which does wonders for this look. To keep the glamorous aspect of the look I accessorized with gold and black pieces. I was never a true fan of mules until I saw these gold Giuseppe Zanotii mules. Talk about sexy! These mules can amp up any look! T complete this look I finished up with a gold Oscar de la Renta chain statement necklace, a black Alexander Wang clutch, and a nude Tom Ford lipstick.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 10.51.16 AMBurberry cashmere top, $957 / Veronica Beard white fitted skirt, $330 / Marni slip on shoes, $770 / Sergio Rossi print purse, $498

This look is obviously inspired by my BFF Nicole Richie. Whenever I look at this outfit I think of her. Anyway I thought this was appropriate for a casual wedding because of the flat shoes and fabric options. I fell in love with this white asymmetrical Veronica Beard pencil skirt. I thought it was a beautiful play on a traditional pencil skirt but with more personality. I paired this skirt with an embellished cashmere Burberry Prorsum sweater (which is on sale). Even though this might be a little warm for your typical summer wedding, it would be comfortable for a cloudy day or an indoor wedding. The embellished collar adds enough glitz and glam but keeps the integrity of the look. To finish off I paired this look with black and gold accessories. I loved these gold and black calfskin Marni moccasin’s. They add so much character and are comfortable to dance all night long. I also paired this look with a black and gold two-tone pattern Sergio Rossi clutch.

I truly hope these looks have inspired you to wear white to a wedding. Trust me it’s not as scary as you think. What’s your opinion is it appropriate to wear white to a wedding? Leave your answers and reasons below!

Guest Editor: 3 Sunglasses That Flatter Your Look

It’s important to know which sunglasses are the most flattering for your look -no matter what look you’re going for. So if you’re looking for what sunglasses look great for your face shape or what sunglasses are matching your outfit, take a look at these flattering frames.

Tip 1: Know Your Face Shape

frb1

One of the best ways to select the most flattering frames is to know what face shape you have and what kind of frames look good on that face shape. Round faces, for instance, need square frames or aviators to introduce angles. Square faces need round frames or aviators to soften the look. Heart-shaped faces need a lot of focus high up to look less top-heavy, so the ideal frame is the cat eye. Oval face shapes like Kate Hudson’s (below) look great in almost any sunglasses frames, but it’s best to stick to aviators like these bamboo aviators from Gucci or these square Versace frames.

frb2

Tip 2: Be Conscious of Color

frb3

Readers of People Style Watch and Us Magazine are going crazy with desire for Gwen Stefani’s recent look. They want the boots, they want the sweater, and they want the frames. Why are the frames so great? Because her speckled frames perfectly match in color to her sweater. Be conscious of color: pick some really funky, colorful frames, and then pick a bold piece that draws out that color.

Tip 3: Go Vintage

frb4

Whether you need to rely on Ray Ban’s Wayfarers or if you’re willing to try a Tom Ford cat-eye, the most flattering sunglasses for your 2014 look involves throwback style. You can look like a pin-up princess or you can look like a retro rocker -it’s up to you, but whatever you choose, go vintage chic for a classy look.

Three Irresistible Summer Trends

Summer is the perfect time to try your favorite looks from Fashion Week. Some of the biggest trends for summer range from all white and crop tops to pinstripes and shiny fabrics. There are some repeat offenders, but then there are also some trends that will take your style to the next level. Instead of splurging on summer trends that tend to repeat, take a chance with some trends that are out of your comfort zone and trends that will elevate your personal style.

Image

When I first saw the Slip Dress trend on the runway I fell in love. I love that there are so many different styles and lengths to this look. It can truly vamp up the sex appeal and femininity of a look. This slinky dress can also give a beautiful silhouette that can be complimented with bold earrings or a statement necklace. In this look I loved the structure of this blush T by Alexander Wang silk slip dress. I loved the neckline, which added some additional coverage for the shorter hemline.   To keep the dress the main focal point, I kept the rest of the look very simple. I loved the rose gold detail and deep sapphire gems in these Anton Heunis spike ear cuffs. To add a little more color I paired the look with a navy Foley + Corinna framed flap cross body bag; it looked beautiful and complimented the deep navy in the earrings. To finish off the look I paired a basic nude/vanilla patent flat sandal.

I’ve always been a fan of bold prints, especially because bold prints have the potential to elevate your whole look and wardrobe. As a person who wears black frequently, including a bold print in a look can add some color and personality. A bold print is a trend that can be easily incorporated into a look or wardrobe. This trend gives to the flexibility to wear a bright and bold dress or sport a bright clutch as your focal point. As said before I love black, so I decided to take baby steps with this look. The focal point of this look is a TOPSHOP leaf print crop top. I liked this piece because the palm tree styled leaves were a perfect fit especially for the summer. I also loved the brightness of the leaves that contrasted against the black base of the top. To play along with the green in the top I paired this look with green leather Clare V. Maison clutch. I thought it went well with the top since the rest of the look is black. To complete the look I paired the top and clutch with a black L.K. Bennett Jodie pencil skirt, black Schutz Fiorenza heels, black Miu Miu round-frame sunnies, and a pair of  EF Collection diamond earrings.

  5. Miu Miu Round-Frame Acetate Sunglasses, $345, net-a-porter.com
  6. Schutz Fiorenza, $260, piperlime.gap.com

Shiny Fabrics-GoldOne of my favorite trends for this season is shiny fabric. Wearing garments that sparkle and shine are great for a night out on the town with your girls, a fabulous date, or even a casual everyday look. It’s easy to incorporate a shiny garment into your look when you’re dressing up, yet it can be a little more difficult picking something for an everyday look. Toning down that statement garment can be done with a sweatshirt or t-shirt paired along with sneakers, flats or sandals. When I saw this Givenchy gold silk skirt I fell in love. I loved the structure and volume it created while flattering your shape with the clinched waist and belt. I thought it would be the perfect foundation for a casual look. To give this glam skirt the perfect casual vibe, I paired it with a white Kenzo Paris cropped t-shirt. The hint of yellow in the t-shirt went well it with the bold skirt. To finish off the look I paired this outfit with a pair of black Acne pascal sunnies, a black 3.1 Phillip Lim lambskin clutch, and black Common Project t-strap sandals.

Shop the look:

  1. Kenzo Cropped Cotton T-Shirt, $150, net-a-porter.com

Trendy Tuesday: Flatforms and Birkenstocks

Summer is right around the corner and I can’t help but search for the perfect flatform and Birkenstock sandal. As we all know, flatforms and Birkenstock styled sandals will be the biggest trend of this summer.

As of now, many stores are carrying different versions of each of these styles. I know that Birkenstock is actually sold out of their infamously ugly sandals. However, it won’t be hard to find a knock off pair that’s just as stylishly ugly/chic. One site that is catering to everyone’s summer trend needs is Steve Madden. They have tons of affordable and chic options if you’re looking for flatforms or Birkenstock styled sandals. Here are four sandals that are definitely on my summer trend list.

Steve Madden: Flatform/Birkenstock Obsession

1. The Scotttie, $99.95,  flatform is definitely one of my favorites. I’m obsessed that this shoe is all black and platform. I’m also obsessed with the leather straps on the shoe. The leather gives the shoe a premium feel for an affordable price. It will be easy to dress up or down these edgy flatforms. These beauts aren’t out yet, so you will have to visit the site to pre-order them.
2. The Boundreee, $89.95, are a chic twist on your classic Birkenstock. I loved these sandals because they were that trendy Birkenstock look with a twist. I loved the pony leopard print. It really gives these sandals a cool factor that can really amp up a look. I know Birkenstock actually teamed up with a brand to create a pair of Birkenstocks that look like these, except they’re so expensive. These sandals are perfect for this trend. Especially if you fall out of love with this trend in two years, you won’t regret spending a ton of money on these. (They also have these in black pony as well!)
3. The Marked, $89.95, are flatforms as well but not as extreme as the Scotttie’s. These come in black and tan, and are both absolutely purchase worthy. I love these because these would be perfect for everyday wear. They’re not to high or over the top. They’re the perfect style if you want to embrace this style but are still a little skeptical.
4. The Surfside, $99.95, are also one of my favorites. This look is a little more basic for everyday wear. However, like the Soctttie’s they have that super high platform. I love these because of the simple minimal look they have. They’re very simple however they have that cool trendy factor to them. They also come in white as well (but of course I like the black ones better).
I hope these four sandals have inspired you to embrace the flatform and Birkenstock trend this summer. These looks are perfect because they’re affordable! These looks are amazing because they look great and they won’t put a dent in your summer wardrobe fund.

Spring Fashion Don’t: Ditching Black

Looking out of my window at school, I stared at all of the snow on the ground. This past week, I’ve been pretty excited because I thought it was finally starting to warm up. However, I was sadly mistaken. It’s cold, gloomy and snowy here at Bonaventure, which doesn’t make me the least bit happy. Anyway, I’m excited for when that warm weather comes, so I created this lovely look for a spring day. Even though spring is vibrant and full of color, you can still rock black in a fresh and exciting way. One easy way to do that is to add crisp white. Two trends that I’m in love with for the spring are crop tops and pieces with graphic designs on them.

I was inspired by my other blog (drunken-bliss.tumblr.com) and decided to create this super modern and minimalistic, yet feminine look. The foundation of this look is black and white. As many of you know, my wardrobe consists of mostly black and white pieces. So, this look is true to style and is something I could wear during the spring.

Midnight Memories.

Victoria Beckham cotton turtleneck sweater / Carven black and white high waisted shorts, $450 / Leather shoes, $375 / Maison Michel wool felt hat, $470 / Chanel sunglasses, $505

I was in love with this Cavern black and white high-waisted shorts. I love the structure of the shorts along with the zigzag/houndstooth-esque pattern of the shorts. These would be perfect in the summer because they’re fun, fresh and clean. I have also been in love with the cropped turtleneck trend, and crop tops will be a huge trend for the spring. I haven’t embraced it yet, but it’s the perfect piece for a spring or summer evening. This cotton turtleneck sweater by Victoria Beckham was my pick for this piece. To finish off the look, I also went with a piece that’s in style now and is super trendy. The Birkenstock-styled sandal is in, and I am obsessed. These Limited Maya gladiator footbed shoes are to die for. I love the contrast between the white leather straps and the black leather sole. To complete the look, I paired a feminine cat eyed Chanel sunglasses and a gorgeous black Maison Michel wool felt hat.

This look is perfect for a nice day or an evening activity. I hope this look inspires you to embrace black and white in a fun, modern, and feminine way.

Summer Love: Blush and Nude .

The weather is finally warming up and I can’t help but think about trends and looks for the spring and summer. Some of my favorite trends for the spring and summer are mixing patterns and textures. Mixing patterns and textures can be a little tricky but could be easy as well. When sticking to one base color, or colors within the same family, it’s best to mix and match patterns and textures so the look doesn’t become boring.

ImageI tend to wear one base color most of the time, so mixing the textures and patterns will help keep your look fresh. Since blush and nude are going to be trendy this summer. You see stars like the Kardashian’s already embracing the different tones of nude since it’s fairly warm on the West Coast already. Wearing different variations of nude keeps the look fresh and automatically adds a summer-time glow to your complexion. Kim and Khloe both wore blush with a natural nude pump, while Kylie wore a nature nude with a pop of gold for her pumps.

I created a flirty yet edgy look embracing the blush color. The blouse caught my eye because it wasn’t typical. This blouse is straight off of the 3.1 Phillip Lim runway. This gorgeous blouse lightweight, which is perfect for the warm weather. The organza blouse is sheer and has a fringe silk panel, which gives the blouse dimension and an edgy appeal. When I saw this blouse I wanted it to be the statement piece because of the structure and detail. To give this look more dimension, I decided to pair this chic top with a pair of patterned blush Dolce & Gabbana shorts. These shorts are high waisted, which would look amazing under the sheer 3.1 Phillip Lim blouse. The shorts are a classic romantic D&G design and since they are made out of cotton, this fabric and texture will stand out compared to the silk and sheer blouse. Since this look has a lot of different textures and elements I wanted to keep the shoe simple and comfortable. These tan Imogen gladiator sandals from Tibi will give a warm undertone to the look. The rich tan color and wooden heel ties this look together by giving a warm and casual feel. To complete the look I decided to go with a blush Ablilita Maxmara purse to tie the look and concept together. Image

I hope this look gave you some inspiration to embrace blush and nude this spring and summer. Since it’s getting warmer this is the perfect time to fill that wardrobe with some staples for this spring and summer!

The Perfect Dose of Sequin for the New Year

Happy Holidays everyone,

Sorry for the lack of content. I’ve finished my semester and now I have a little more time to share some goodies with you! New Years Eve is approaching quickly and we all know we need to have the perfect outfit. It might seem cliché, however sequin garments are always perfect to bring in the New Year. Personally I think NYE is the only holiday you can truly look glam and not over the top in anything sequin. I also love this holiday because it’s the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and be bold. I’ve put together four looks that can be worn in warm or cooler climates. You’d just have to adjust the look to suit the appropriate weather.

ImageThe first look is a play on a sexy red dress. New Years Eve is the perfect time to step out in a red sequin cutout dress if you want to be bold or step out of your comfort zone. This sequin knee length dress is perfect for NYE. The bold color, cut outs and knee length skirt keeps it sexy yet classy for your New Year’s festivities. To make sure the dress is the statement piece, I would pair this with a simple black pointed toe pump and neutral makeup and nail polish.

  1. Boohoo Aubrey Cut Out Bodycon Dress, $40, Boohoo.com
  2. Retro Mid Heel Court Shoe, $40, Zara
  3. NYX Love in Paris Eye Shadow Palette, $9.99, Target.com

ImageThe second look is my absolute favorite. Now I wouldn’t recommend this look if you’re going to a party with a bunch of people who would spill drinks on you. This is for a more social get together with a bunch of friends and/or family. I love this look because it wasn’t as bold as the sequin cut out dress.  I was in love with the silver and gold sequin detailed crop top. I love that this top had a quilted look. The gold sequin detail gave it that glam aspect. I paired this top with high waist wide leg trousers. The white trousers gave this look a glamorous and Gatsby vibe. I paired this look with silver booties, a crystal clutch, and plum lips.

  1. Angeli Lattice Crop Top, $1,325, temperlylondon.com
  2. Alexander McQueen High Waist Trouser, $1,139, farfetch.com
  3. Christian Louboutin Reillissima Lace Illusion Platform Bootie, $1,295, bergdorfgoodman.com
  4. Alice & Olivia Be Jeweled Embellished Clutch Bag, $465, bergdofgoodman.com
  5. Tom Ford Beauty Lip, $49, bergdorfgoodman

ImageThe third look is something a little simpler. This is a look I would definitely wear, not only on NYE. Keeping the outfit simple gives you more room to experiment with your makeup.  This look would go perfectly with a bold lip; therefore I stuck to black and gold throughout the look. The embellished black crop top was perfect to transform this all black look. Since the top had embellishment it gave this look extra glam. I paired this crop top with platform pumps with gold detail and a sequin gold clutch. To set this look apart I’ve also paired this look with orange lipstick.

  1. Black Devore Embellished High Neck Crop Top, $20, riverisland.com
  2. Mia High Waisted Skinny Jean, $72, forevernew.com.au
  3. Steve Madden Naia Platform Pump, $60, dsw.com
  4. Gold All Over Sequin Clutch Bag, $28, janeorman.co.uk
  5. Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids, $23, nelly.com

ImageThe fourth look was one of my favorites as well. One NYE I wore a romper and I loved it! When I saw this romper I fell in love. I loved that it was long sleeve, black, and had some sparkle to it. I also like the gold zipper on the back of the garment. I paired this romper with a pair of jeweled nude open toe satin pumps. Even though the romper is black, the gold and nude lightens up the look. I finished this look with a gold embellished see through clutch, a gold ring, and nude lipstick. This look is classy while having some sex appeal.

  1. Balmain Structured Wrap Dress, $2,229, farfetch.com
  2. Charlotte Olympia Pandora Pearl-in-Shell Clutch Bag, $1,395, bergdorfgoodman.com
  3. Eva Fehren Gold Champagne Diamond X Ring, $5,785, liberty.co.uk
  4. Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color, $49, bergdorfgoodman.com
  5. Badgley Mischka Dree II, shoeperwoman.com
